Worthing Raiders bolster their back row with two quality signings

We are delighted to announce the signing of Kemp Price and Joe Spurgeon who will bring speed and physicality to the Raiders back row. With the news that Rob Smith was forced into retirement last season, the coaching and management team knew they had to bring in some quality back row players and that’s just what they’ve done. With the likes of Perkins, Whittall and Redmayne already in the squad there will be fierce competition for places and that can only improve the players performances.

Raiders head coach Jody Levett added “Kemp and Joe are two completely different styles of players and it’s exciting to see what they can bring to the team in open play and at set pieces. They’ve both played a high level of rugby and I’m sure our supporters will be eager to see what they can do in National 2 South”

What attracted you to come and play for Worthing?
Getting to know Liam Perkins and a few other players through Hampshire this season has given me a great impression of the club. The style of rugby that the Raiders intend to play will suit my game with the pace and quick ball. Also the impressive turn around by Dean Garnett and the management team in regards to organising contracts, accommodation, interviews etc.

Do you play any other sports other than Rugby?
Rugby’s my main sport, I tried my luck at football but gave that up a while ago.

Who’s your sporting hero and why?
It would have to be Richie McCaw. The way in which he plays every game like it is his last and puts his body on the line for his team mates.

What’s your greatest rugby achievement?
I’d have to say i’m torn between representing England Counties U20’s or playing at Twickenham in the county championship for Hampshire. They were both great occasions but putting on an England shirt of any kind has a special feeling so I’d have to go with the U20’s game.

When did you start playing rugby and who for?
I started playing rugby when I was 10 for Vectis RFC and have loved the game ever since then.

What attracted you to come and play for Worthing?

Growing up in Sussex and hearing of Worthing’s achievements, coupled with knowing a few current and previous players who have nothing but good things to say made it an easy choice. In Sussex if you want to push yourself you look for the highest level of rugby and that’s here!

Do you play any other sports other than Rugby?
I’ve taken part in some athletics through the summer but that was more of something to fill my time until the rugby season came back round!

How have you found pre-season so far?
It’s been good but hard work which is expected. I’ve tried to keep myself fit during the off-season so I’d say I’m well prepared. It’s been great to get to know more of the players and people involved in the club and you get the feeling that everything’s heading in the right direction.

Who’s your sporting hero and why?
I think it has to be Richie McCaw captaining the all blacks to back to back world cups. I think most back rows would say him purely down to how much of an incredible player he was.

When did you start playing rugby and who for?
I think I was 11 or 12 when I started playing for Crawley and played against Worthing up until Colts and I don’t think we ever won at Roundstone Lane, so I’ll be looking forward to finally winning some games here!
